Centaurs are followers of the Sky-Father, Alemar. Created by him in the hills to the east of the city of Ruzor, the centaurs live in patriarchal groups called clans. Shortly after their creation, the centaurs settled down into five clans: Clan Grageon, Clan Crudak, Clan Loramorel, Clan Magnda, and Clan Ravasaadi. The clans fought amongst each other savagely until He came. A white centaur that brought the clan Fathers together and gave them the Way of the Wind, a code of conduct that all the centaur adopted. Among other things, it stated that centaurs would no long kill each other if possible; rather, they would engage rivals in mock battle, attempting to strike each other with an oomkat, a blunt staff that simulates the spear most centaurs prefer to use. In this way, disputes could be settled without bloodshed.

Another aspect of the Way of the Wind is the creation of the Unnamed. These centaur are those that have disgraced themselves in some way, or are no longer able to keep up with the herd. They live in the City of the Unnamed, founded on the same spot the clan Fathers met with Him and received the Way of the Wind. These centaur perform many duties for the centaur people, including crafting many of their weapons and goods, to be sold later to the clans when they come to the City to trade.
