Drakes
Drakes are a murderous combination of crow and dragon to create a winged blight upon the land. A drake is about the size of a typical human, about five to six feet long with a fifteen foot wingspan. Their individual size is Medium.
Getting into more detail, a drake looks like a small, feral dragon with two fanged, vulture-like heads on long necks and two long tails. They are born as hermaphrodites, with one side predisposed to be male and the other female. Dark green or blue feathers run down their spines and flair out to cover the shoulders up to where their sharp-tipped wings begin.
Drakes are pack hunters, but beyond the scope of wolves. A group of drakes is called a 'storm', numbering in the hundreds or thousands. They form colonies within forested regions or cliff-sides. With the former, they lay their self-fertilized eggs en mass within a tree that soon becomes as feral in nature as the drakes themselves. With cliffs they will hollow out thousands of holes to nest in. With a colony established they behave in the manner of solitary wasps but still acting to defend the species as a whole. Communication and vocalizations of these beasts are very deep, concussive barks.
Colonies are normally tolerant of terrestrial species when not on the hunt. However, aerial species, especially dragons, are high priority targets and the ensuing skyward battles are spectacles visible for miles.
The jagged interior cliffs of Fanged Island is home to the largest population of drakes, who act in service to Alaraxar as its line of defense. Due to the island's isolation, the spread (infestation) of these creatures is minimal for now.
