Divine Combat

Initiating combat or aiding another god in combat requires AP.
The cost for initiating combat is 0+(# of previous combats you've been in that week)AP.
The cost for aiding in combat is 1+(# of previous combats you've been in that week)AP.
The defender does not have to spend AP.

Figuring the outcome of a battle is a simple matter. For each side, add together:

Compare that result to the same thing on the other side, the highest result wins. In the event of a tie, no side is any worse for the ware, but they’re still tired from battle (so no AP is refunded).

Example: Zeus and Thor team up and decide they want to kick Captain Planet’s butt. Neither Zeus or Thor have been involved in a battle this week, so to initial cost to start a fight is free. However, since one of them must effectively aid the other (it doesn’t matter which in this case), one of them has to spend 1 AP.

Zeus is DR 5, Thor is DR 4 and wields the artifact Mjolnir that grants him a +1 bonus in combat. That’s a total of 10. Either Zeus or Thor rolls a 1d6 (the result is a 4) and they add that to their other modifiers for a total of 14.

Captain Planet has a DR of 9 and no artifacts. He’s the one being attacked so he doesn’t have to spend AP to defend himself. However, Shaq doesn’t like that Captain Planet is being ganged up on, so he decides to join the fight. Shaq has already been in 3 battles this week, so he has to spend 3 AP to aid Captain Planet. Shaq adds his DR of 6 to Captain Planet’s side of the battle. Their side rolls a 3 so that’s 3+6+9 for a total of 18. Captain Planet and Shaq win and to the victors go the spoils.

In order to benefit from a combat artifact, it must be clear that they had it with them from the beginning. You cannot just have your friend return it whenever someone attacks you.

Consequences of Defeat

Note...these injuries apply to ALL combatants on the losing side. So, be smart about who you lend a hand to.

Pwned (Lost by 1 or more): If any character has been on the losing side of a combat, they may not initiate or lend aid in combat until the next rollover.

Beat Down Hardcore (Lost by 5 or more): Exarchs discorporate and may do nothing until they are revived at the cost of 1 AP. Deities are grievously wounded or discorporate. Deities and their associates (exarchs, high priests etc) may not spend AP until their wounds have healed (the next rollover has occurred AND they spend 1 AP). Deities continue to gain AP in this state but may not spend it in any way other than to heal themselves at the next rollover. Deities in this state may continue to RP, but may not spend or lend AP in any way, nor may they use artifacts.

Destroyed (Lost by 10 or more): An Exarch dies and cannot be revived by any means, though they can be 'remade' for 4 AP, just like making a new Exarch. A deity's divine energy leaves their bodies and they are removed from play. No AP is gained in this state. The player may continue to role play exarchs and mortals. Deities can be returned to play only if someone else spends 3 AP to revive them. Deities in this state are dead, finito, gone. Do not pass Go, do not gain AP at rollover.

Rules on Aiding

Aiding a god requires you to be present! You cannot simply send good vibes to your friends to improve their prowess in battle! By entering combat, you subject yourself to any and all conditions of victory and defeat.

The player intending TO aid must do so and spend the AP either before the combat is initiated or before the Defender in the combat rolls their 1d6. After the defender rolls, combat is concluded and the results are tallied. Likewise, the Defender must gain aid before they roll. The Defender has a "reasonable span of time" to request aid...something short of 24 hours, so you cannot stall and wait on your friends for 2-3 days.

If combat is initiated before rollover, it is concluded before rollover whether or not that point in time has actually passed...you cannot gain AP in the middle of combat as it were.

You may craft artifacts prior to initiating combat, but not during.

You may gain aid from your own exarchs by spending 1 AP per Exarch. Other than this you may not spend or lend AP during combat.

You may not use utility artifacts during combat.
